There are many styles to create and lots of frames available but the most popular and traditional lampshades are either tailored or pleated shades. This 2 day workshop covers all the skills required to make a unique hand stitched, beautifully bespoke tailored or pleated lampshade, complete with bindings and trimmings.
In our soft furnishing workshops and courses, you will learn the traditional skills involved in covering lampshades: from choosing your frame, binding the frame, creating the pattern and a template, stretching and pinning your fabric in place, lining the shade and finishing off with trimmings or making bias bindings.
We can supply various sizes and shapes of lampshade frames and students should bring their own fabric. Light to medium weight raw silks are ideal particularly for pleated designs. A heavier fabric can be used for the tailored designs but please discuss with Helen before the day. Machine and hand sewing will be required. Helen will happily discuss your project with you before the workshop.
This two day workshop takes place in the Market Hall in the historic town of Tetbury, in the beautiful Cotswolds. Tea and coffee is served at 9.30am and the workshop runs from 10.00 am to 4.00-4.30pm. Lunch will be provided, however please get in touch for any special dietary requirements that you may require. Further details, including a list of items to bring with you on the day, will be sent to you with confirmation of your place.
We offer a wide selection of fabrics from British designers such as Peony and Sage, Sarah Hardaker, Kate Forman, Cabbages & Roses, Emily Bond, Vanessa Arbuthnott and many more. If you are looking for fabric inspiration and would like to order fabric ready for the workshop, please get in touch, Helen would be happy to assist.
