This beautiful Oyster White linen is one of our new Dune collection of plain linens. This beautiful Irish Linen is woven in a mill with a rich and long heritage in the Irish Linen industry. Irish Linen is renown for its high quality and traditional weaving history.

Our Oyster White linen is a medium to light weight linen with a beautiful texture, and perfect for slightly tailored curtains and blinds, and piped cushions. I have also used this for lining roman blinds in preference to cotton sateen lining, giving the blind a slightly heavier crisp lining and the luxury of a plain linen visible from the outside.

Oyster White is a gentle cool white with a hint of grey in it, so think of Farrow & Ball ‘Wevet’ in tone. It works really well with the base cloths used by many of the UK designers now, which are slightly more grey in tone than ivory.

Characteristics of Linen

Linen is a natural fibre, harvested and spun from the cultivated flax plant, an herbaceous annual plant. Flax is a cellulosic plant fibre, which forms the fibrous bundles in the inner bark of the flax plant stems. The plant grows to a height of around one metre and the fibres run the entire length of the stem, to help support the plant and hold it upright.

Within flax yarn and linen fabrics, you may see small slubs, knots or slight imperfections, which can sometimes occur. These are not imperfections in the fabric, they are an inherent part of the natural characteristics and charm of pure linen, its sense of natures texture. Colours may vary slightly from roll to roll, due to the nature of natural fibres and their harvest and growing conditions.

Fabric Care: We recommend that you dry clean linen. As linen is a natural fibre, there will be some shrinkage if you do decide to wash the linen. If you do decide to wash your fabric, please do so by hand in warm water, and hang out to dry naturally. Linen will also wrinkle easily but this can be helped by ironing, using a warm setting.

Fading: Most furnishings fabrics will fade after lengthy periods of exposure to strong sunlight, some fabric treatments and carbon monoxide. We always recommended that any furnishings are lined with a suitable lining to help to reduce or prevent fading. However, please bear in mind that natural fabrics are prone to fading, and we do not take any responsibility for this.

Ordering

Fabric swatches are available for all our fabrics. We always recommend ordering a sample to check the fabric texture and colour, as colours can vary on computer screens depending upon the settings. There is a small charge for each swatch, which is a non-profit basis and covers the postage costs. We offer free postage on our swatches.
